Redding, CA

We are going to stay here for about two weeks, reliving some of Rollie’s old stomping grounds.  He lived here for about 10 years off and on.  We are staying at Bear Mountain RV Park, just north of Redding.  It is unique, and quiet.  Probably would not recommend it to my Rv travelers, but it is working for us.  On Wednesday, we will move out to Whiskeytown, to the National Park for a few days.
Since we have been here, we saw our accountant Nat, had my cracked filling replaced, and ordered a part for our level up system at the new camping world.
Shasta DamBelow is a picture taken at Shasta Dam which we toured….with about 15 ten year olds.  It was great and so were they.
Everyone we talked with warned us how hot it would be here, but it has been cool, even as low as 45 at night.
The other day we also went to Turtle Bay, and walked across the Sundial Bridge.  It also has a glass walkway, very unique.P1000626_thumb
We also took a ride according to our GPS to get back to the RV park.  It was warned that you should not use your GPS to get to the park, and they were right!!!  It took us on dirt roads and paths.  So glad we were NOT pulling.  And Rollie had 4 wheel drive!!!
P1000646_thumb     Today we took a ride to Whiskeytown NP to see the lake and do some geocaching.  I didn’t know what a Glory Hole was, but now I do.  It is really an overflow tube to preserve the dam, when the water gets too high.  It is like over 200 feet down, so it could be quite dangerous.

Last of all we had to find Rollie’s favorite fish and chips place.  It was still there; so lunch was great.  Buz’s also has a fresh fish market, so we will be back!!

Oakhurst, CA Geocaching and Solar Eclipse

Loking for Geocache #2
Looking for geocache #2
Our first Geocache
Rollie's first Geocache
Over the weekend, we have been learning about geocaching, and using a GPS.  Rollie’s cousin Alan is an avid geocacher.

We have just found our first thanks to Alan, and went looking for our second.  I think Rollie has found a new hobby.  As we travel we will have to locate some of these finds.  It is amazing how many people who do this have.  We have started a log so stay tune!! Here is our first find!!  Looking for our second?!?

Yosemite, CA

We have spent the last two weeks here at Coarsegold, CA in the SKP park of Park Sierra.  During our stay we have visited Yosemite National Park, and have seen its beautiful vistasGlacier Point.  It is about 35 miles away, but it is worth the trip.  We ate at the Ahwahnee Hotel, famous for a special guest, Queen Elizabeth, so we knew we were in great company!!  Glacier Point Road is a must do.  It is 17 miles to the Point, and you have to return the same way, but well worth it.  We are early birds when we travel, but even in April there was a crowd by mid morning. What a view from here!!!
We also visited Rollie’s cousin, Alan and Buna just up the road.  It was nice to renew our friendship.  We will meet them once more before we head north.  Here are a few pictures of the area:Glacier Point
Yosemite Falls
Rollie is also investigating this hobby of geocaching his cousin is doing.  Stay tune for more on that.  We may be looking to find hidden objects along our journey.

North Fork, CA: A Mother’s Day Outing

Today we set out for 0800 church, and decided since we were here in North Fork that we would find the exact center of California.  This is an old mining town with many hills around it.  It was supposed to be just about four miles down the road on Italian Bar Road.
The center of California, Italian Bar Rd.      So off we went.  Being in the High Sierras, there are a LOT of switch back roads, and after about 10 miles we put the coordinates in the GPS for latitude and longitude.  The road was barely a one way chip and seal road, and we had another 5 miles to go.  Finally we found it!!
The center of California, Italian Bar Rd.I don’t know how many people have tried to find this spot, but you would really have to want to come here.  I would bet not many made it to their destination, and turned back.
Just some trivia now.  The center of the U.S. is Lebanon, KS.  The center of Texas is 5 miles north of Brady, TX.  We have been through there, but have never stopped.
The center of California, Italian Bar Rd.       After a few pictures, we were off.  Instead of going back the way we came, we decided to follow the “road” ahead, and get back to North Fork for brunch.  With all the switch backs we encountered, and the narrow road, we made it back to where we were planning to eat after about two hours going thirty miles!!  Somehow our four mile trip turned into an adventure, but we saw some beautiful country!

We went to the Buckhorn Restaurant and Saloon for late breakfast, which was amazingly good.  That ended our escapade, and we headed home for a nice afternoon.
